When to Plant and Fertilize

Spring is just around the corner and as we begin approaching warmer temperatures, it is time to plant, fertilize and trim/cutting back. I always wondered what times of year that should take place, so I did the homework for you!

In the East Valley of Phoenix, the best time to fertilize depends on the plant type, with key, peak times being February/March (spring growth), May/June (pre-summer), and September/October (fall recovery). Of course you would want to avoid fertilizing during extreme heat (July-I mean, who wants to be doing that in 110º) or the coldest part of winter (yes, we DO get winter in AZ! Sometimes we even have to place frost cloths over our plants because the temps can dive below 32º!)
