Upgrading Your Side Gate to Withstand the AZ Weather

As we all know, the sun can do a lot of damage over the summer when it comes to wear and tear of the external places around our homes. Your side gate in one of them. If you’re like us, your home came with a basic builder grade  gate with the cheap one wood that degrades and needs paint or stain over time.

But, we found a simple fix. This wasn’t a difficult or too costly of an upgrade. Hmm Depot and Lowe’s each carry this PVC wood that is manufactured to withstand the weather elements. All it took was some measuring, purchase the boards, we used a chop saw to cut to length and a table saw to cut 2 of the pre-fabricated wood pieces to fit within the smaller slots on the side. It’s easy to remove the old slats with a socket wrench.

You too can upgrade your fence for less than $100 and not have to worry about painting or staining it for your life time. Now that’s a good investment!

Supplies needed:

  • Slats from he hardware store (Amount may vary depending on gate size)

  • Socket wrench

  • Chop or skill saw

  • Table saw (depending on width of gate slats)
