Making a Waterfall Coffee Table for less than $75
We have a sectional sofa in our home that is great for seating and entertaining, but when we have people over, there is no where to set your glass or books or even have a little decoration on it.
Initially I had a tray that I carefully deleted and styled, but with the decor or it, it didn’t leave much room for a cup. That’s when I went to Pinterest and found ideas for a waterfall coffee table.
As searched online, I saw that purchasing a new coffee table would run into several hundred dollars. If you know me, I like to find a bargain and a way to get around paying the high prices but getting the same look and outcome.
Pinterest showed me a way to build our own table and I could measure and choose to build it in whatever size and stain color of my liking!
We purchased one premium pine board from Home Depot. For this project, we hit up our friendly neighbor to borrow his compound miter saw to cut those 45° angles. We measured the desired height of the table and then got to work.
We cut the wood, then used wood glue and nails to secure it in place. For extra measure, we added some L brackets in the underside for extra strength. (This table is highly used).
Once the wood was glues, nails and brackets secures, the nail holes and seams were filled with a sandal wood filler. When it dried, I sanded the edges with a 120 grit sandpaper (by hand) until smooth and no imperfections could be seen. I wiped off the saw dust and brought out my Varathane wood stain. I chose the color “Providencial” because it goes with the rest of my decor. Once the stain was applied and dry, I used a coat of Behr Premium Polyurethane in satin to finish off the sheen. I added some small furniture glides to the bottom to make it easy to move along the ottoman and area rug.
We are so pleased with the results. You can create your own waterfall coffee table. It was a one day project.
